The News Bulletin – May 10, 2024 was shared with members today. It includes complete lists of our Executive Board and Shop Stewards, as well as information on a new registration process for General Membership meetings.
FINAL NOMINATIONS (March 25, 2024)
A Final Nominations – AGM notice was shared with all members. The Executive Board will eb appointed by acclamation at the upcoming AGM.
NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS (January 22, 2024)
2024 is a election year for the Executive Board and one Trustee. A Nominations & Elections Notice was sent to all members along with the Agenda for the February 5, 2024 General Membership meeting. A reminder this is the last meeting of the 2023-2024 year, all members must attend one meeting each year to avoid the Assessment fee. Members have until Friday, February 2, 2024 to request the meeting link for the upcoming GMM.
WVMEA NEWS BULLETIN – UPCOMING NOMINATIONS (January 8, 2024)
The News Bulletin – Jan 8, 2024 was shared with members today via email. Our next and final General Membership meeting for the year will be held on February 5th 2024. Nominations for the upcoming Executive Board elections will be open at this meeting. Further information regarding nominations and elections is forthcoming.
WVMEA NEWS BULLETIN & MOA’S UPDATE (December 20, 2023)
The News Bulletin – Dec 20, 2023 edition was shared with members. The ratified MOA’s were finalized by the employer earlier in the month. Municipal, Library and Police members received further information from the office to their personal email addresses.
MUNICIPAL, LIBRARY, POLICE MOA’s & RATIFICATION (December 5, 2023)
Memorandum of Agreements for the Municipality, Library and Police were signed on November 16, 2023. The WVMEA held information sessions for members, followed by ratification voting during the week of Nov 27 to Dec 1, 2023. The Ratification Vote Results were all in favour of the MOA’s. The next step is finalization from the Employer.

The News & Views – May 15, 2023 bulletin was sent to all members today via email. It includes a special highlight of the 2023 WVMEA Scholarships and a call for volunteers to be members of the Scholarship Committees.
NOTICES FOR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS (March 27, 2023)
Two important notices were shared with school board members today regarding upcoming Wage Increases and Health Plan Updates. The maximum wage protections and updates to the Provincial Standardized Extended Health Plan will be effective as of July 1, 2023.
UPCOMING AGM (April 3, 2023)
The Annual General Meeting is taking place in-person on April 3, 2o23. The Agenda and meeting location has been shared with members. Members that have not received the AGM information, and are interested in joining the meeting, are asked to contact the WVMEA office.

The News & Views – January 2023 bulletin was sent to all members today via email. Included in the Bulletin was a reminder of our upcoming General Membership Meeting and the Handy Financial Planning Facts document for 2023.
RIGHT TO REFUSE UNSAFE WORK (September 8, 2022)
The WVMEA sent an important Health and Safety Bulletin to all members highlighting the WorkSafeBC amendments to the Right to Refuse Unsafe Work. Changes will now require employers to provide written notice of an unresolved work refusal to any worker subsequently assigned or allowed to perform that work, and to provide written notice of reassignment to the joint health and safety committee or a union representative.
5 PAID SICK DAYS FOR ALL CASUAL AND TEMPORARY STAFF (May 5, 2022)
Amendments to the Employment Standards Act stipulate that as of April 1, 2022, all casual and temporary employees are entitled to 5 paid sick days per each calendar year. The WVMEA sent a Municipal Memo and School Board Memo to members (via email) to ensure that everyone is informed. Any questions regarding the 5 paid sick days may be directed to the WVMEA office.
